Dear Shared Harvest CSA Members,
Thank you for being part of Shared Harvest CSA! We are so grateful to have you all sharing our passion for supporting small-scale, conscientious growers in our regional food-shed.
As our local food marketing and buying opportunities have changed–expanded, in many cases–Shared Harvest CSA has evolved, as well.
Signup for this year’s Riverland Shared Harvest winter farm shares directly with Wright-Locke Farm (November-January) and Bay End Farm (November-December)
As many of you know, our pickup site hosts have expanded their own sales and deepened their involvement in cold season farm-direct sales. Our shares signup, Extras sourcing and ordering, and distribution have been integrated into the year-round Farm-to-Go food ordering system at Wright-Locke (thanks to Amy R. and crew), and extend the season at Bay End Farm (thanks to Erin and Kofi and longtime shareholder/volunteer Andrea!).
Furthermore, we’ve felt the significant change as two foundational primary growers shifted their sales to their immediate locale (Cider Hill in Amesbury) and to the now robust regional distributor networks (Picadilly Farm now grows primarily for wholesale to local food co-ops and through Myers Produce). And one of our reliable core bulk veggies pinch-hitters, Alprilla Farm, has moved to central NH and is on hiatus from production while setting up shop there.
Our other primary, Riverland Farm continues on as the primary grower, producer, curator and deliverer of organic winter shares coming to you at Wright-Locke and Bay End Farms for this coming winter season. Riverland Farm’s owner and co-manager Emily ensures a nice variety in the share, rounding it out with food from neighboring organic farms near them. The winter shares will now be offered as “Riverland Shared Harvest winter farm shares”. Signup for your Riverland Shared Harvest winter farm share for November-January pickup at Wright Locke through the Wright Locke Farm-to-Go website and/or for November and December pickup in Buzzards Bay directly through Bay End Farm.
Longtime Shared Harvest CSA marketing, share, and distribution coordinator Jane Hammer has enjoyed these years of connection with you all and the local food landscape and of course the best food for our New England winters! Getting closer to the roots of nourishing food and habitat, Jane is spending more of her time now visiting farms and digging in the soil, pursuing work in agroecology, soil health coaching and monitoring. For now, find more bit more info about Jane’s agroecology interests and endeavors on LinkedIn.
The Shared Harvest CSA website will remain online as a handy reference/archive of recipes and fresh fruit and vegetable storage tips.
To you all, some who have been part of this effort for many years and others just discovering this way to eat fresh local and organic through all seasons, a hearty and deep thank you! You’ve chosen to fill your winter stores with whole, nutritious food from growers and producers who work to responsibly care for the land and their families and communities. You’ve cared about and enjoyed the benefits of good land management and healthy soil: nutritious, tastier food with lasting quality! In gratitude for your continued involvement–wishing you a well-nourished and joyful season ahead!
